Summary

Reporter Onoe and photographer Kaburagi constantly bicker and argue on their stakeouts, but will their antagonistic behavior paradoxically evolve into something sweeter?

Satoshi Onoe, a reporter for a weekly magazine, has a new stakeout partner, and he’s anything but thrilled about it。 Photographer Motoharu Kaburagi’s unconventional reporting methods and overall bad attitude are enough to drive Onoe insane。 But the more the two work together, the closer they get。

Satoshi Onoe prides himself on his good writing and ethical reporting for the weekly magazine he writes for。 But when the stakeout teams are shuffled around, he ends up being paired up with Motoharu Kaburagi, an ill-mannered photographer who’s nothing but trouble。 Onoe despises Kaburagi’s haphazard and unethical reporting methods, and the two constantly fight。 But as they spend more time together, Kaburagi’s two-faced attitude makes Onoe begin to see him in a different light。

Being stuck with smooth talking, rules-bending photo-journalist Motoharu Kaburagi, the man that stole Onoe’s girlfriend。 Since this is BL, we know where this is headed, but Natsume throws in so many narrative and visual curve balls you'll just need to sit back and enjoy the ride。Oh, and on the ride, count the number of ways Natsume can draw Onoe going apoplectic, or green with envy, or childlishly arrogant, only to end in a Jerry Lewis-worthy pratfall - all because of Kaburagi。 Through it all, Onoe still comes off as irresistibly adorable。Thoroughly enjoyable and I can't wait to see what happens next。 I've ordered the next several volumes。 。。。more

I gave this one a try but was thourougly disappointed。 The art is pretty great but the story and the relationship is not quite so。。 it falls to all the worst BL tropes。 Coworkers Onoe and Kabu who hate each other’s guts and are forced to work together。 This ends in a lot of quarelling but after a while Onoe seems to glimpse something he could still like about his coworker。 However this change is not seen in how they communicate at all, they still argue all the time。 That was the first thing that I gave this one a try but was thourougly disappointed。 The art is pretty great but the story and the relationship is not quite so。。 it falls to all the worst BL tropes。 Coworkers Onoe and Kabu who hate each other’s guts and are forced to work together。 This ends in a lot of quarelling but after a while Onoe seems to glimpse something he could still like about his coworker。 However this change is not seen in how they communicate at all, they still argue all the time。 That was the first thing that put me off。 And for some reason every time the coworker voices that he likes something about Onoe。。 it is during one of their fights and he just screams it at him。。 Not a very healthy set up for a relationship。 Despite this Onoe still kinda starts to like Kabu’s work ethic and starts to feel physically attracted to him。Later on when Kabu seems to realize that Onoe gets embarassed around him easily he decides the only reason for this is that Onoe must like him。 He teases him and ends up kissing Onoe against his will。 Onoe at this point has accepted that he is attracted to Kabu but there is literally no rhyme or reason on why he is and they still argue all the time。 During a job Onoe gets sexually assaulted by a man。。 and Kabu shows up, saves him。。 only to sexually assault him as well。 Oof。 And after that during an argument he confesses his love? Bad communication, constant shouting, insta love and non-consent kisses, not for me。 And it only gets worse。。 Kabu just assumes and accepts it as a fact that Onoe likes him back, without even trying to listen to him。 He also immediately gets pushy and jealous of Onoe’s other guy friend。 Ugh。 And when he asks Onoe if he should be jealous。。 Onoe starts insulting him and telling him there is no way he would like him (but he actually does and just tries to be nasty for once)? I cannot。 They end up “dating” but it just means Kabu forcing himself on Onoe who keeps telling him to stop but “secretly” “enjoys it”。 。。。more

4/5ko-fi • Instagram • TikTokAfter reading this, I honestly had to sleep on what rating I wanted to give this baby。 I was leaning more towards 3。5/5 stars; however, my CAWPILE rating came out at 4 stars。。。but at the low end of the 4 star rating, so it was very difficult to choose。 After getting a wonderful nights rest (not really) I can say this is getting a 4 star rating! Whoo, go me。 Gosh I make it sound like I hit a life goal (maybe I did)。 Anyways, there were a lot of things that I loved and 4/5ko-fi • Instagram • TikTokAfter reading this, I honestly had to sleep on what rating I wanted to give this baby。 I was leaning more towards 3。5/5 stars; however, my CAWPILE rating came out at 4 stars。。。but at the low end of the 4 star rating, so it was very difficult to choose。 After getting a wonderful nights rest (not really) I can say this is getting a 4 star rating! Whoo, go me。 Gosh I make it sound like I hit a life goal (maybe I did)。 Anyways, there were a lot of things that I loved and did not love about this BL manga。 There really was no grey area for me - either I liked what was going on or I was like "nope"。 What I really loved about this BL manga, that we don't see very often, is that it is definitely plot focused over smexy focused and I enjoyed that。 Mostly due to finishing From Blood and Ash and I couldn't deal with all the hot and heavy。 Onoe was a character I both disliked yet understood。 I am not a fan of characters that over-react and freak out about every little thing。 If he wasn't moaning about one thing, he was over thinking about something else and it is seen quite often throughout the manga。 Poor guy, I honestly thought he would give himself a heart attack。 However, Onoe was one character I connected with off the bat。Onoe is a hard ass worker。 He puts in the hours, the research, the time into each of his articles and really get's nothing to show for it。 He is constantly put to the backburner with his work and after all those horrendous hours of researching and writing articles they still don't make the front page。 So I understand the resentment he is feeling towards his coworker Kaburagi。 Kaburagi is consistently praised for his stake-outs and unraveling these huge stories。 At one point Onoe's story was put to the last page when he was promised the first page, because Kaburagi's story was "better"。 So this rivalry that is going on in Onoe's head (and his many over-reactions) is definitely justified。 However, I just wish he wouldn't make it so obvious。 The plot build was one of the best that I have seen in any BL manga that I have come across。 Well besides Coyote, Vol。 2, that book literally hit the head on plot and plot twists。 What I really loved was that the physical chemistry built over time in Candy Color Paradox and that it wasn't within the first few pages。 We get to see Onoe's thoughts slowly change around Kaburagi and see his inner turmoil with still wanting to hate the man。 There were some places that were slow and jumped all over the time-line but it definitely gets better。What is also wonderful is that we get to see the POV of Kaburagi as well; which honestly, I have never seen another manga do before。 It was really refreshing since we get to see both sides of the story。 If you are a fan of slow build romances, work rivalry, funny stake-outs, and more plot than sex than I definitely recommend that you pick up Candy Color Paradox, Vol。 1。 。。。more

So I'd seen and heard a lot of people recommend this manga, so of course I went out and bought myself a copy。 I have to say that I really wasn't that impressed and it actually took effort to finish this volume。 There wasn't anything attention grabbing, the artwork was just okay and I don't mind mangas with lots of speech bubbles if the story is worthwhile but it didn't really grab me like I said。 The end when they finally kind of expressed their feelings it got a little bit better so I may at so So I'd seen and heard a lot of people recommend this manga, so of course I went out and bought myself a copy。 I have to say that I really wasn't that impressed and it actually took effort to finish this volume。 There wasn't anything attention grabbing, the artwork was just okay and I don't mind mangas with lots of speech bubbles if the story is worthwhile but it didn't really grab me like I said。 The end when they finally kind of expressed their feelings it got a little bit better so I may at some point I may give volume two a try but it's not something I will be rushing out to do。 I'm sad because I really wanted to like this just like everybody else。 。。。more

Work rivals-forced proximity-to lovers。 What more do you need?!Loved the banter between Onoe and Kabu。 Also, there was a good balance between romance and plot。

I bought the first four volumes (correct me if I'm wrong but that might be all that is published in English at this moment) on a whim when I had a coupon for a bookstore and it was having a buy 3 get 1 free deal。 I will admit, I skimmed the summary of the first volume and then added the first four books into my cart and called it a day。 Overall, this first volume is very, very similar to most Yaoi style manga, sexual relations included。 (Trust me when I say I was surprised when these books came。 I bought the first four volumes (correct me if I'm wrong but that might be all that is published in English at this moment) on a whim when I had a coupon for a bookstore and it was having a buy 3 get 1 free deal。 I will admit, I skimmed the summary of the first volume and then added the first four books into my cart and called it a day。 Overall, this first volume is very, very similar to most Yaoi style manga, sexual relations included。 (Trust me when I say I was surprised when these books came。。。wrapped in plastic)。 Onoe is your typical "I won't admit I'm in love" protagonist while Kaburagi is the jerk that Onoe is refusing to face his feeling for。 The premise of the manga is interesting with these two working in the tabloid industry but at times, that plotline didn't keep my attention。 The cliche motion of this manga made me set it down numerous times before I finally picked it up and finished it。 I'll reserve any final say until I'm done with all four volumes that I own and update the review on that book when I get there。 。。。more

This manga was absolutely adorable。 Everything about it had me gushing or squealing over the characters and the situations they found themselves in。This is a classic enemies to lovers trope。 Onoe is someone I was able to relate to almost immediately。 He wasn’t excited or even happy about the sudden change at his job, and he was even less than thrilled to find out his new stakeout partner was the guy he’s consistently competing against, Kaburagi。The drama in this book was fantastic。 It was almost This manga was absolutely adorable。 Everything about it had me gushing or squealing over the characters and the situations they found themselves in。This is a classic enemies to lovers trope。 Onoe is someone I was able to relate to almost immediately。 He wasn’t excited or even happy about the sudden change at his job, and he was even less than thrilled to find out his new stakeout partner was the guy he’s consistently competing against, Kaburagi。The drama in this book was fantastic。 It was almost like it was practically falling off the pages and playing directly in front of you。 There were situations in which Onoe and Kaburagi had to learn to adjust and recenter themselves for the purpose of their work, and then there were some in which they learned more about each other and grew to define and accept their differences。I truly enjoyed this manga, and I cannot wait to continue reading through the next volumes。 If there was one manga I’d wish to become an anime, it’d definitely be this one。TRIGGER/CONTENT WARNING(S): Attempted Rape 。。。more

This was really cute。 I loved that the main focus was on the investigative work, and the romance was woven throughout。 It was a bit of an insta-love deal, but I didn't mind。 I'm intrigued to see where it will go from here。 I'd say it's a solid 4。5*, but I've rounded it up to 5 because I enjoyed the overall art, storyline and characters。 This was really cute。 I loved that the main focus was on the investigative work, and the romance was woven throughout。 It was a bit of an insta-love deal, but I didn't mind。 I'm intrigued to see where it will go from here。 I'd say it's a solid 4。5*, but I've rounded it up to 5 because I enjoyed the overall art, storyline and characters。 。。。more

Hate to Love romance between two tabloid journalists? And one is the high strung, always blushing type and the other is the stoic jock type? Candy Color Paradox was a fun read and I love how the romance developed。 There aren't any real sexy scenes until the very end but that doesn't mean that there isn't a ton of pining。 And plenty of blushing and miscommunication。 I am going to keep reading this series as Isaku Natsume has sold me on this romance! I knew that this manga had good things waiting for me, but I didn't know they'd be this good。 If you follow my reviews or know me personally, you may know that I really like the thrill and confusion and excitement that comes with a newly budding romance。 But I grow tired of them very quickly if they feel rushed or if there's nothing substantial that comes of it afterwards (like if they get together then the entire story ends)。 BUT THIS。 The mangaka spent an entire volume building up their world I knew that this manga had good things waiting for me, but I didn't know they'd be this good。 If you follow my reviews or know me personally, you may know that I really like the thrill and confusion and excitement that comes with a newly budding romance。 But I grow tired of them very quickly if they feel rushed or if there's nothing substantial that comes of it afterwards (like if they get together then the entire story ends)。 BUT THIS。 The mangaka spent an entire volume building up their world and their feelings for each other。 There was plot, there was a real setting and world that pulled me in, there were cliffhangers that didn't drive me up a wall。 Mangaka developed the characters and their worlds through their eyes and why they acted the way they do, and why people treat them the way they do。 It felt like I was getting to know real people, and it made me truly care about them and become emotionally invested in all of it。 The art, too, makes me feel things, it has so much emotion in it without being too hyper or in your face。 The pacing of the story is also quite good, and the story itself is pretty original for something in this category (while also slipping right into the same stereotypes as well)。 I guess what I'm trying to say is that it feels just original enough to not make my eyes roll from the lack of originality, but rather, feel a little excited that everything was executed so well。 I think that most of all, sensei here is just so good at character creation and fleshing them out for the reader。 I really resonated with these characters, yes, both of them。 I think that's also important for a story's success, because it draws the reader in more because if they can relate, they'll become more invested, as I have。 I feel like it has helped me reflect on myself and my own choices a little。Oooh, but I really did love seeing how their budding love for each other progressed, and how Kabu reacted to certain situations involving Onoe, like the almost rape and other things。 It actually really got me excited and almost to the edge of my seat。 And when he came right out with his feelings, it all felt ignited。 Ugh, but THAT kiss most of all, with the tongue and in the car。。。 Both the kisses in the car。。。 That was really igniting, hehe。 Okay, but really now。 I just loved seeing them grow close together, and it was funny how Onoe just shrugs off his ex now, who is also in love with Kabu (oh, oh, threesome? LOL)。 What really gets me so attached to this story though is how their attraction for each other is based around honesty。 For Kabu, being around someone as painfully honest as Onoe gives him faith in humanity again, whether he has fully come to realize that or not。 And by having someone like that near him so often, it's allowed his normally cold and numb personality (which hides beneath the many pleasant masks he's created) to once again see color and taste sweetness。 Onoe has positively influenced Kabu to the point where even his superiors think that he seems lighter on his feet and happier in his work。 This, along with the fact that things that shouldn't bug him about Onoe do, and that thoughts of Onoe seem to stick with him longer than they normally should, is what leads Kabu to believe that he's fallen in love。 Meanwhile, or perhaps a bit earlier to this, Onoe's friend had to straight up tell him "dude, you're very much obviously crushing on your new partner。"Even now that they've consummated their feelings (twice), Onoe still hasn't said he loves Kabu (to his face or where he could hear), but Kabu knows it, it's obvious in more ways than one and Onoe knows that Kabu knows。 But it's still nice to hear it。。 especially when Kabu has already said it I think twice now。 And he tried being so gentle with him too。 Haha, it's funny how he wasn't sure how to answer if he had experience or not, but after doing the deed, he was found out that he's not been with a man before。 "。。。not reeeeeeeally?" haha。I just really love them together。 I also find it soo sweet that out of all of Kabu's faces and personalities that Onoe got to see, he fell in love with only one of them。 The coldest, nastiest one, and yet it was his true face。 But slowly, Onoe drew out his heart, and seeing Kabu's true self somehow created an attraction for Onoe。 I can't blame him。 Seeing someone normally so cold suddenly so vulnerable and caring only to you, it may spark at least a little something。 Well, I can't wait for more and I bet I'll be rereading this again in the future! 。。。more

The title of the book attracted me to it。 I like all things candy and of course gay love stories。 The artwork is okay, at it's best, it's serviceable。 The artwork isn't too experimental or cluttered, and it helps to get the story across。 And the story is cute and there are genuinely adorable moments between the two protagonists。 These moments, however, come at the latter end of the book and unfortunately you have to slog through a long, wordy first half of the manga trying to set up the situatio The title of the book attracted me to it。 I like all things candy and of course gay love stories。 The artwork is okay, at it's best, it's serviceable。 The artwork isn't too experimental or cluttered, and it helps to get the story across。 And the story is cute and there are genuinely adorable moments between the two protagonists。 These moments, however, come at the latter end of the book and unfortunately you have to slog through a long, wordy first half of the manga trying to set up the situation between the characters。 It's all very, very boring and on more than one occasion I wanted to quit on this book。In the end, I'm glad I didn't。 There were some cute moments towards the end when the denser seme Onoe finally realizes that Kaburagi really does like him and that he likes him back。 There is an explicit content warning, but there's very little and not very graphic sex, here again, towards the end of the book。 So if that is your draw, I would skip this book。 There isn't much and it's mostly cute and suggestive and not very graphic。I wouldn't suggest this except to hardcore fans of yaoi and I will likely not be following up on the proceeding volumes as I wasn't that attached to the characters。 Still, it's cute and a good if not excellent read。On to the next read!!!!!!!!!!!!111 。。。more

I don't think this one was for me。 I didn't understand what both MCs saw in one another。 "you don't lie" just doesn't seem like enough for as far as they went。 Lots of plot with job stuff which there were a few more pages dedicated to the romance/feelings。 I'll give vol 2 a shot and see if that fleshes things out more。 I don't think this one was for me。 I didn't understand what both MCs saw in one another。 "you don't lie" just doesn't seem like enough for as far as they went。 Lots of plot with job stuff which there were a few more pages dedicated to the romance/feelings。 I'll give vol 2 a shot and see if that fleshes things out more。 。。。more

As I've mentioned before, it's the average Boys Love story。 Onoe couldn't stand how Kaburagi behaved and yet they're put to work together。 And we go from there。I didn't see much standing out in this story, but there aren't negative sides either。 In other words, you will have a fun reading time。 And I think the main characters had good chemistry, which is a necessary plus。Something I noticed is that I could have very well stopped in the first volume, the story was more or less complete there, but as I have already read the second one I can say we get to have more character development, perhaps because now the author had more time to work on it, and more backstory on the main characters。 The first volume is more about them getting to know each other, more plot-driven, I'd say。 I think that's great for those unsure if they want to give another series a chance—just take some of your time and read the first volume, drop it there if you didn't like it much。The art is very cute and the jokes are also good。 No spoilers but I can assure you the second volume maintains this rhythm as well。 If you're after a cute lovers-quarrel BL, this could be it for you! 。。。more
